Presidents Report
October, 2005
To the Members:
It has been my
privilege to serve as the President of the Board of Marine Underwriters
of San Francisco during the past 12 months. I would like to take the
opportunity to now report on our activities during the past year.
I am pleased to
announce that we have a new director – Julie Vogele of Ace USA. Julie
brings relevant experience to the Board, having served as President of
the Association of Marine Underwriters of San Francisco as well as
various other posts within that organization. On behalf of the Board, I
thank Julie for her contribution, and look forward to working with her
in our endeavors. Also in the past year, we have added a new member to
the Board. RLI Marine, a division of RLI Insurance Company, has joined
both the AIMU as well as the Board. RLI is represented locally by Peter
Knowles, formerly of MOAC. Peter had been serving on the Board in the
capacity of Treasurer, and on behalf of the Board I express gratitude
that he has agreed to continue his service.
The Pacific Coast Forum
Committee has been active this year, and so far has successfully
delivered two editions. I would like to thank Dick Yerian of Zurich for
his stewardship of the committee. The PCF made an effort of expanding
its reach to other markets of the West Coast, specifically the Seattle
and Los Angeles markets. This goal was realized by contributions from
Pacific Northwest correspondent Lelani Sinkula of MOAC Seattle. In
addition, I would like to thank the following individuals for their
efforts in keeping the PCF a highly regarded local industry publication:
Maggie Williams of Falvey Cargo (former editor), Lauren Miller of Swiss
Re (current editor), Tom Nootbaar of AIMA, Josh Kirsch of Gibson and
Robb, and Michael Pellgrini of Marsh.
Our Education Committee
is chaired by Rebecca Galloway of IMU/One beacon. The Board thanks Becci
for her efforts, and either a field trip or a breakfast meeting is
expected in the fourth quarter. A Half -Day Seminar was well into the
planning stage when our key presenter had to back out, leaving us no
option but to cancel the event.
The Board’s web site
continues to be updated and improved, and I would like to thank Brett
Eckert of St Paul Travelers Insurance Company for his work as our web
site coordinator.
The Treasurer for the
past year has been Peter Knowles of RLI, and the Board is grateful for
his time and work in this capacity. I am pleased to report that the
Board is in excellent financial shape as we head toward our seminar year
(2006) with a balance of approximately $55,000.
And speaking of our
2006 Seminar, I am pleased to advise that Patrick Hickey of Great
American is heading our Seminar Committee. Pat has done a tremendous job
of forming the committee, getting speakers and presenters committed to
our date, and creating a working schedule for the seminar. I would also
like to thank Al Dugan of Falvey Cargo for continuing to head the Golf
Committee, which has scheduled the event for the day prior to the
seminar (May 10th, 2006). The Seminar will be held at the
Palace Hotel on May 11th and 12th, 2006.
Finally, I thank the
Officers and Directors of the organization – Brett Eckert, Julie Vogele,
Dick Yerian, John Cecchi, Peter Knowles, Rebecca Galloway, Sandy Inouye,
and Pat Hickey.
Respectfully
submitted,
David Fowler
President
